Keeping Current

Educational Technology is such a rapidly changing field, it is nearly impossible to keep current with the ever-changing tools, strategies, and trends. After listening to the examples in class, choose at least one way to keep current: join a listserv, subscribe to a journal, search for online learning communities, find a blog to follow regularly, etc. After taking on this challenge, describe what you did in your "Comment."
***Remember to choose "Other" and use at least your first name. Thanks!

I am not good about keeping current. I do so by taking classes with you Katie! :) I know I need to do more. I do really like the idea of subscribing to educational magazines to see what is out there. I' looking forward to the week and some new reading material!

I would like to join a blog that is specific to either educational technology or to foreign language education. Also, I plan on starting some blogs for my various levels of Spanish. Right now, I have my Spanish III & IV students keep a daily journal. I want to expand on that with some weekly writing prompts for the kids. I plan to have my Level I & II kids blog occasionally, especially at the end of chapter work (focusing on the topics of each chapter.

I think that getting the magazine at home would be the best way for me to keep current. I don't have much time at school to look at the ezine version.

I have joined with the journal site for edutopia and techlearning. I would like to find someplace for information on teaching students in reading and math with special needs. I currently use the Scholastic website for my reading program. I am always looking for new ways to teach math to special eduducation students. I would like to start a blog for my reading students that would go with what they are reading in class.

I'm going to subscribe to Edutopia. So glad to know that there are free magazines that will help me keep current in the area of education/technology. I think it would also be a great way of communicating with family.

I have now signed up for both edutopia and tech learning and will be receiving their publications.
Hopefully I will find the time to read them and use them to "keep current" with technology.
For me, I'll be the first to admit that I do not keep up with technology, but I do try.
I am an avid reader with sports journals and some educational journals, but not any that are specific with technology.
In my school system we do not utilize the resources of technology, "so I am told." So maybe this will make me more aware of what is out there. After taking Katie's class in the fall of 2005, I have started to pay a bit more attention to what our school has and when it comes time to order and request items, the technology side definately came into play this year. Hopefully a 2nd tech. class will just make me more aware.

I have subscribed to TechLearning and Edutopia on-line. I am glad that you said this would work for keeping current. Whew! I am looking forward to receiving the updated information. I know the stuff is out there, but I never know what is a good resource.

I think that Edutopia and Techlearning will be good ways to stay up on what is new with technology. Taking classes is the best way for me to stay current. Not only am I exposed to technology that I otherwise would not experience on my own, but I get to practice with it. When I know how to use a program, I am more likely to use it in class.

I have subscribed to edutopia for the library magazine collection - we already recieve Technology and Learning. I usually get to look through the magazines before they are shelved.

I subscribed to the Edutopia newsletter/magazine and the Techlearning newsletter/magazine. I spend a lot of time browsing other teachers web pages. Many have great links to such things as technology sites. My favorites list is becoming quite long.

I love the game templates. It's a quick, easy way for me to review with a class. Knowing the facts are going to be used in this format will make the students more interested in remembering the information from their classes.
